My Dog Ate My Homework

Last week, my computer at work started to act sluggishly. I decided to quit my applications and reboot. During the reboot, the BIOS complained about an imminent hard disk failure and then started a disk check resulting in a lot of hard disk errors. The computer barely managed to boot but recovery of data on the hard disk was very difficult at best. Fortunately, I had very little on the disk that wasn't backed up somewhere. I only lost about an hour of work and even that was recoverable. It shows, though, that hard disks sometimes fail and if you aren't good at keeping backups, you could potentially lose a lot of valuable information when they do. You don't want to report to your superior that your dog ate your homework. Make sure you don't depend on your hard disk to work all the time. Make sure you have proper backups in case disaster strikes.
